What is the difference between Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage and Emmett Lymphatic Treatment?

lymphatic relaxation Oct 01, 2024

The lymphatic system is a crucial part of the immune system and helps remove waste and toxins from the tissues. Our Lymphatic System is a complex system made up of organs, nodes and vessels which resides all through out our body.

When there is a disruption to our Lymphatic System it can cause lethargy / fatigue, sluggishness, swelling, bloating, digestion issues, sinus blockage, headaches, ongoing inflammatory issues. However, Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage and Emmett Technique Lymphatic Treatments can assist with activating the Lymphatic System. What is the difference between these treatments?

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) Massage:

    •  Uses gentle, rhythmic, sweeping strokes to manually move lymph fluid toward the lymph nodes and throughout the body. It focuses directly on stimulating lymphatic vessels to enhance circulation and drainage.
    •  Involves continuous, light but sweeping strokes to manually assist in moving the lymph fluid.
    •  Usually performed over a longer period (60 - 90minutes), working systematically over large areas of the body to improve overall lymphatic drainage.

Emmett Lymphatic Treatment

    •  Involves light pressure on specific "Emmett points" to trigger the body's natural response and improve lymphatic flow. It focuses on neuromuscular connections and is typically a more localised approach.
    •  Applies minimal, light touch, focusing on the body's reflexes and specific points to prompt lymphatic flow.
    •  Often shorter in duration, targeting problem areas quickly, with results sometimes felt immediately.

Both techniques aim to support lymphatic health, but the Emmett Technique is more focused on stimulating neuromuscular triggers, where as MLD is based on manual, continuous lymphatic flow stimulation.
