Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a specialised Massage Technique that encourages the movement of lymph fluids around the body. Our Lymphatic System is a complex system made up of organs, nodes and vessels which resides all through out our body.

When there is a disruption to our Lymphatic System it can cause lethargy / fatigue, sluggishness, swelling, bloating, digestion issues, sinus blockage, headaches, ongoing inflammatory issues.

Here are 10 key reasons why MLD is beneficial for the body:

  1.  Reduces Swelling and Fluid Retention: MLD promotes the flow of lymph, which helps reduce swelling and fluid retention, particularly in areas prone to oedema (such as the legs or after surgery).
  2.  Enhances Detoxification: By stimulating the lymphatic system, MLD assists the body in eliminating toxins, waste products, and metabolic by-products, supporting overall detoxification.
  3.  Boosts Immune Function: The lymphatic system plays a crucial role in immune defence. MLD helps to circulate lymphocytes (white blood cells) throughout the body, enhancing immune responses and helping to ward off infections.
  4.  Enhances Digestion and Absorption: The gentle, rhythmic strokes of MLD can stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system, which governs rest and digestion. This stimulation may help to improve peristalsis (the wave-like contractions of the intestines), promoting regular bowel movements and reducing constipation.
  5.  Improves Skin Health: MLD increases blood circulation and removes waste products from the skin, which can lead to a clearer complexion and reduce conditions such as acne and puffiness.
  6.  Relieves Stress and Promotes Relaxation: MLD uses gentle, rhythmic strokes that activate the parasympathetic nervous system, promoting relaxation and reducing stress levels.
  7.  Aids in Post-Surgery Recovery: MLD is often recommended after surgery to reduce swelling, prevent scar tissue formation, and speed up recovery by enhancing lymph flow in the affected areas. This includes all surgeries and most commonly, Liposuction.
  8.  Alleviates Chronic Conditions: MLD can provide relief for those with chronic conditions such as fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, or lymphoedema by reducing discomfort and enhancing overall well-being.

This can happen due to surgery, radiation, infection, or congenital conditions, and if left untreated, it can lead to discomfort, skin changes, and increased risk of infection.                                             MLD stimulates the lymphatic vessels, encouraging the flow of lymph fluid away from swollen areas and reducing congestion. This helps assist to reduce swelling, prevent infection, improve skin health and enhance comfort.
